A lot of life happening this past week, making this the right time to share some recent songs from the drafts folder.
Like the title of this Rapsody-assisted song off Phife Dawg’s 2022 moving posthumous album Forever, consider this a “Fallback” week.
As always, you can listen along to the music in this newsletter via my “Alej Archivez” playlist on Apple Music, Spotify, or Tidal. I put each week’s new music first, followed by any references or samples.
After falling back, you can look forward to an update in the coming weeks to let you control the frequency and content of these newsletters 🤙🏽.
Begin Again
I haven’t figured out how to categorize this besides triumphant and vaguely Brazilian, although my sister came across it in a playlist called “Grown Pop”, so let’s go with that!
If you enjoy it, check out the extended album version of it here.
Give It To Me
This is amazing timing for some new Miguel. His classic 2010 “Sure Thing” just reached a new chart peak 13 years after its release, as well as broke the record for most weeks on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Considering that Miguel has the world’s eyes again, I’m glad that “Give It To Me” doesn’t sound formulaic or pop, sticking close to Miguel’s always unique mix of all things R&B, electronic, rock, and funk among others.
I’ve also enjoyed running back personal favorites like his 2012 “Use Me” and his 2015 Disclosure collaboration “Good Intentions”.
DO 4 LOVE (Black Coffee Remix)
“DO 4 LOVE (Black Coffee Remix)” by Snoh Aalegra & Black Coffee
For your weekly dose of vibes, we have a smooth remix of Snoh Aalegra’s “DO 4 LOVE”, which is, in turn, a cover of Bobby Caldwell’s “What You Won’t Do for Love”.
The Black Coffee remix brings some energy and Rhythm back into Snoh’s song which had originally slowed down and focused on the Blues of the original Bobby Caldwell classic.
Also, no better time than now to share the 2 separate songs by Snoh Aalegra and Black Coffee which were ironically both sampled on Drake’s 2017 “More Life” playlist.
Snoh Allegra’s “TIME” which was sped up and sampled on Drake’s “Do Not Disturb”
Black Coffee’s “Superman” which was sampled and re-sung by Jorja Smith on Drake’s “Get It Together”
Peace
Thanks all, and a friendly reminder to hug someone you care about today!
